Yosane ‘Profile’

This year, a special character that I’d like to introduce is a samurai lady named Yosane. She first appeared in a short manga, but I revamped the character for a more indepth story. She is a character closest to my heart, and I hope you’ll look forward to seeing more of her.

YOSANE’S PROFILE

Hair: black, Eyes: light brown, Height: 5′7″
Note 1: Yosane is pronounced yoh-sah-neh in equal timing.
Note 2: Yosane doesn’t cover the breast, because in those days bare breasts were considered natural.

In 14th century medieval Japan, unrest between warriors and aristocrats continued. The warriors held the governing power, but their hold had been loosening as they become overwhelmed by their own strict administration, giving rise to discontentment from all quarters. Bickerings were rampant among the warlords.

A provincial Lord was caught in such a  strife. He lost his life, his family, and his house – all except for a daughter, whose safety he entrusted to a young samurai named Yosane.

Yosane belonged to a vassal family of the Lord. She was raised as a warrior, despite being of the unexpected sex. Yosane became proficient in the use of arms, and dutifully served her master.

On that fateful night, yosane and the Lord’s daughter narrowly escaped. Without state or possession, they found themselves pursued. Even so, they travel the land and face unknown dangers, in hopes that the path may lead them to some deliverance, if not in life then in death.

Without name or honour,
Only a sword as my partner,
I dance along the misty path.

In the distance
Twilight approaches,
Fleeting is my song.
